Norwegian Court: Princess Astrid on the mend

On Friday, Princess Astrid (94), the older sister of Norway's King Harald (89), was admitted to the National Hospital in Oslo. Important support for Norway's monarchy

Princess Astrid is considered one of the most important pillars of the Norwegian monarchy. She only celebrated her 94th birthday in February and gave the broadcaster NRK a remarkably open interview about her age. As usual, she was humorous and reflective: “I'm sitting in an armchair and stuff, but it's my legs that fail and not so much my head, so I remember things.”

Despite her physical limitations, she emphasized in this conversation that she wanted to continue to attend official appointments. She demonstrates her sense of duty again and again: It wasn't until her birthday in February that she opened an exhibition together with Queen Sonja.

The Norwegian King Harald himself has been having recurring problems with his health for some time. The 89-year-old monarch recently had to be hospitalized for an infection and dehydration while on holiday in Tenerife and has been under observation by his personal doctor ever since. In March 2024, the monarch had to have a permanent pacemaker inserted after an infection while on vacation in Malaysia. (spotonnews/ajo)
