Do you already know her?
While millennials still pressed their lips together to make a duck face, the internet has now spawned a new selfie trend. The pose can already be seen everywhere on Tiktok: the platypus pout modeled on actress Lily-Rose Depp. The focus is also on the lips – but the effect is completely different.
Bye-bye Duckface!
When it comes to the perfect photo pose, every generation has its own peculiarities. One of the most well-known trends is the duck face. The pressed and pushed forward lips have adorned selfies on social media in recent years. The pose is particularly popular among millennials (born between 1981 and 1996).

But it is now facing competition, as PureWow reports. A new lip pose is making its way onto Tiktok: the platypus pout, as they are called in media reports. According to 20 Minutes, the name alluded to a larger-looking upper lip and a smaller lower lip – like the platypus's beak. The trend is also known online as GenZ Lips.
Gen Z Pout: Here's how it works!
Actress Lily-Rose Depp is seen as one of the founders of the pouting trend. The lower lip is pulled slightly upwards, making the upper lip appear more prominent and protruding. The corners of the mouth remain neutral or are pulled downwards, almost creating a frown.

There are now even videos online that explain how to achieve the perfect pout. “You push your lips quite far out and then pull your bottom lip inwards,” explains creator Tiffany Ma, who dares to try the trend as a millennial. She blows some air through her lips and then sucks in her bottom lip.
This works best with dry lips, according to other videos, such as 20 Minutes. This would make the lips stick together better and the upper lip could be easily pushed up with the lower lip. The effect: a full lip look!
