Brachttal – What started with a supposedly cheap gutter repair for a few hundred euros almost ended in financial disaster for a homeowner. As the police announced, traveling tradesmen visited the man at his property last Wednesday (March 18) and involved him in a cleverly arranged fraud scam.
Fraud costs a man almost 50,000 euros
While working on the house in Brachttal Main-Kinzig district the men feigned further urgent defects on the roof. They covered the roof and then demanded a four-figure sum. The homeowner paid – after being put under pressure by them.
But that wasn't enough: They then demanded a total of almost 50,000 euros. The payment could only be stopped through the quick intervention of a bank employee who noticed the suspicious transfer. The police have now started an investigation into suspected usury.
