The largest candle in the world is taking a break. The red cloth from the rear tower in Schlitz has been removed again. The well-known Christmas attraction will disappear from the cityscape for the time being.
Schlitz – On Saturday morning (March 21st), volunteers from the Schlitz fire department removed the cloth that turns the historic back tower into the “largest candle in the world” every year. As those responsible announced, the red cover will now be safely stowed away until November.
The cover of the huge world record candle fell into the slot again
Then the tower should become a shining candle again in time for Advent in 2026 and once again attract thousands of visitors to the castle town. After the record season, the Hinterturm candle in Schlitz in the Vogelsberg district lit up again in March as a symbol of peace.
It has been a tradition for 34 years that the back tower is transformed into an oversized candle in November. The installation has long since grown beyond a mere advertising stunt format and has developed into an integral part of the pre-Christmas period in Schlitz. According to the city, the candle is now considered one of the most important tourist attractions in the region.

In this “season” the glowing candle was not only used at Christmas time; on the last weekend in February it was “lit” again as a peace candle. The Schlitzerland action alliance invited people to a peace festival in Hahnekiez on March 1st and symbolically included the light of the candle. (rsb)
