Holger Marx thus missed victory by just nine votes. His competitor, the individual applicant Daniel Schmidt, achieved 34.03 percent. Therefore, citizens have to go to the ballot box again on March 29th. After three decades, Rainer-Hans Vollmöller (CDU) is ending his term as mayor of Lauterbach. Five candidates applied to succeed him.
Holger Marx and Daniel Schmidt are now moving into the runoff election. The latter is a member of the Green Party, but is running as an independent candidate. On Saturday, the two opponents met on Berliner Platz. When the Interior Minister arrived, Daniel Schmidt from the Lion Monument approached the CDU information stand at the Strumpfbrunnen and greeted Roman Poseck.
The Hessian Interior Minister emphasized: “Now it’s also about motivating people to go to the polls again.” The future of the district town is at stake. Turning to Holger Marx, he said: “I am firmly convinced that you are the right person for this office, because you are firmly rooted here in this city. You know the city like the back of your hand, including through long political work as a city councilor, now also five years as a city councilor. So you have everything you need for this important office.”
Holger Marx was pleased about the support and said: “Yes, it's another sign that you're supporting me here again today. That's really great, I'm really excited about it.” Both politicians then held discussions with the visitors. The Interior Minister said goodbye at around 1 p.m.
