The window of an eyewear shop in Schlüchtern was damaged in a nighttime accident. Apparently an Ape driver had drunkenly crashed into the window.
Schlüchtern – A three-wheeled motor vehicle drove into the window of an eyeglass shop on Schlüchterner Obertorstrasse around 2 a.m. on Sunday night and caused considerable damage, according to the police headquarters in Southeast Hesse.
According to the officials, it was initially unclear that it was even a traffic accident. A passer-by made an emergency call and reported that the window of the glasses shop was damaged and smeared with blood. According to their own statements, the officers quickly ruled out a break-in and shortly afterwards located the driver of a three-wheeled motor vehicle who was said to be responsible for the damage.
Accident involving an unusual vehicle causes a stir in Schlüchtern
According to initial findings, the 32-year-old was driving his Piaggio Ape 50 from the north on Obertorstrasse when he must have lost control of his vehicle in the left-hand bend to Grabenstrasse and crashed into the window of the shop. According to the police, it is not yet clear how extensive the damage to the vehicle and the shop window is.
“The alleged perpetrator’s alcohol level, which was found to be over one per mille, probably played a role,” the police wrote about the cause of the accident. It is still unclear whether excessive speed contributed to the accident and is part of the investigation. The man had to go to the station for a short time to have a blood sample taken and he also had to hand over his driver's license until further notice. Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the Schlüchtern police station on 06661 9610-0.
There was also an accident in the Fulda district at the weekend. In the municipality of Großenlüder, a motorcyclist fell and skidded over a traffic island. The 31-year-old was seriously injured.
