To further round off the emergency services in the Fulda district – this goal is intended to be achieved by the new rescue station of the DRK district association Hünfeld in the south of Haunestadt.
Hünfeld – “The rescue service has experienced numerous expansions in recent years. The location here at the clinic is now intended to round off this development,” explained Deputy District Councilor Frederik Schmitt at an information event at the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Hünfeld. Mayor and DRK President Benjamin Tschesnok (both CDU) emphasized that the second rescue station – next to the one on Hersfelder Straße – would further strengthen the Hünfeld location.
The project is expected to cost a total of 2.6 million euros. The plan is to build on Schillerstrasse, above the Helios Clinic. “The row of parking spaces we are currently standing on, as well as the one next to it, will make way for construction and will be reorganized in the rear part of the parking lot,” explained architect Alexander Wuttke.
New DRK rescue station for 2.6 million euros in Hünfeld
The new location will be built between autumn of this year and summer of next year. “In the future, the vehicle hall will offer space for an ambulance that is available around the clock and the emergency ambulance that is already stationed at the clinic, as well as a replacement emergency vehicle,” added Steffen Diegmüller, head of emergency services at the DRK.
In addition, the new guard should be registered as a training guard. “A training room is being built in the new building in which the rescue service and emergency doctors can prepare together for their important work,” summarized Diegmüller. Due to local conditions, the station will be built on two floors.
“On the upper floor there is a unisex changing room, a technical room, storage room and the training room. All mission-critical rooms are on the ground floor,” explained Wuttke. After the expansion of the emergency service offering in the Fulda district, the Hünfeld Süd rescue station represents the last missing component. “This location means that the response times in the direction of Nüsttal or Mackenzell can be shortened by around two and a half minutes.
In addition, the Hofbieber rescue station receives support if the team there is already in action and another emergency occurs,” reported Frank Reith, head of emergency services for the district. The investments in the region are not limited to the rescue station alone: Around 1.6 million euros will be used to renaturate the Nüst near Hünfeld.
