Hünfelder SV is separating from coach Stephan Kimpel. After 16 games without a win, a well-known duo takes over. There has to be a turnaround.

Hünfeld – 16 games, no win, only one draw: The upper league handball players of Hünfelder SV are staggering towards relegation to the district upper league – and now also a change of coach. As Tim-Niklas Dörge from the HSV handball department management confirmed on Monday (March 9th) when asked by the Fuldaer Zeitung, the Haunestädter and coach Stephan Kimpel have separated with immediate effect.

Hünfelder SV: Change of coach after 16 games without a win

“He informed us that he would not have continued with us beyond the season. After the impressions of the defeat against Bettenhausen, we decided to separate immediately,” says Dörge, describing the process. Most recently, HSV suffered a 38:44 defeat against VfB Bettenhausen in their own stadium.

As bottom of the table, Hünfeld is dependent on whether there are any relegated teams from the regional league. Hot candidates for this are MSG Körle/Guxhagen and TSV Vellmar. A supposed advantage: With Eschweger TSV and VfL Wanfried, who withdrew before the season, two relegated teams have already been determined.

It is very likely that the sporting future of the “State League Dinosaur” HSV will be called the District Oberliga. “It’s about us finishing the season properly,” says Dörge. Fabian Sauer and Christian Krätzig will be responsible for this on the sidelines.

The long-time leader Sauer has ended his career, was reactivated for two games this season and has already worked as a player-coach for HSV in the past with Felix Rehberg. Now he will take over until the end of the season – at least for now.

“For us, this is the ideal solution and we could imagine Fabi doing it for longer. But we'll discuss that after the season,” says Dörge. There are two main things associated with the Sauer/Krätzig personality: more identification and continuity. HSV stood for fast and spectacular play for many years, but we don't see much of it anymore. And: There has been little continuity on the coaching bench in recent years.

Sebastian Peppler stays at Großenlüder/Hainzell

However, there was no change for the men from HSG Großenlüder/Hainzell, who won the derby against HSV twice in this series: The upper division team is starting the new season with Sebastian Peppler. He took over from Adrian Schild in the summer. “It just fits well. We are on a different, new path,” he told the Fuldaer Zeitung.

The fact that some young players were already playing under him in the second team may also play a role. Many developed well and established themselves in the first team. “You learn a lot from each other and can take a lot with you. That's fun,” said Peppler. The HSG is currently third in the league and of course wants to defend this place.
