After 15 years it's over: Gerald Gottwald was retired from his position as spokesman for the mayors at the traditional mayor's dinner in Schlitz.
Schlitz – 15 years ago Gerald Gottwald took over the position from Reinhold Braun from Sandlofs. “Gerald Gottwald is retiring, so to speak,” said Mayor Heiko Siemon (CDU) jokingly and thanked him for his commitment, because after all, this voluntary position comes on top of the office of mayor. “Everything has worked out in an exemplary manner over the last 15 years.” As a thank you, Siemon gave him a picture of the city of Schlitz.

“It was an honor for me to pull together for the city and the districts for 15 years for you and with you,” said Gottwald, who is also relinquishing his position as mayor of Willofs after 25 years. He had previously welcomed current and former mayors to the meal, for the second time in Hahnekiez. It was reminiscent of previous venues such as the brewery or the distillery. By the way, the Schlitzer Distillery distills a special schnapps for Hesse Day: the “sip of home apple”.
The mayor's meal is a relaxed meeting for sharing, where you can sometimes “leave it alone,” as Siemon said. As always, the hosts were the Vogelsberg country breweries. Managing director Ruth Herget-Klesper had, among other things, the organic beer “Vogelsberger Naturbursche non-alcoholic” with her and reported that organic beer drinkers think differently than beer drinkers. Organic beer drinkers, for example, mostly buy individual bottles and not cases.

Next year the country breweries will celebrate their 500th anniversary, the same year in which the Schlitzer celebrates the 100th anniversary of their traditional costume festival celebrate. Ruth Herget-Klesper and Heiko Siemon agreed that the dates should not collide with one another if possible.
After the meal, which included breaded schnitzel with rosemary potatoes and salad, Heiko Siemon and Marius Kokel performed this year's carnival sketch again: The mayor, who returned early from vacation, has to endure the building yard manager gradually explaining to him why of the 15 expensive koi carp he farmed there are now only two left.
