The war in Ukraine will be remembered at a peace service in Fulda Cathedral. Those affected will report on their experiences on February 28th.

Fulda – An ecumenical peace service will be held in Fulda Cathedral on Saturday (February 28th) at 12 p.m. This was announced by the diocese of Fulda. The reason is this fourth anniversary of the outbreak of war in Ukraine on February 24th. After the service there is an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas in the Dechaneigarten.

Auxiliary Bishop and Cathedral Dean Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Diez, who acts as episcopal vicar for the universal church, organizes the service together with Dr. Thorsten Waap, the dean of the Fulda Protestant church district, Pastor Ivan Hnativ from the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and deacon Ivan Kolodii from the Fulda city parish.

The focus of the service is on the people affected by the war. They share their experiences and experiences both from Ukraine and from the Diocese of Fulda, which has become a new home for many of them.

The service offers space for personal witness, shared prayer and solidarity-based remembrance. “Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on February 24, 2022, the people in the Diocese of Fulda have felt connected to their sisters and brothers in Ukraine not only in prayer, but also through concrete help,” writes the Diocese of Fulda.

Donations are still urgently needed

In addition to donations in kind, financial support remains an important part of help, according to the diocese. Earmarked donations are possible under the keyword “Ukraine War Emergency Aid” to the Caritas Association donation account for the Diocese of Fulda at Sparkasse Fulda. Numerous initiatives in the Diocese of Fulda are committed to supporting people in Ukraine. One The Diocese of Fulda's aid group with Caritas and Malteser have since collected numerous donations in money and in kind and have launched several aid transports.

According to the diocese, another aid transport is planned for March 7th. From Petersberg, among other things, nursing beds and medical aids such as wheelchairs and walkers are to be brought to the western Ukrainian city of Truskavets in order to support local medical care.
