He murdered completely indiscriminately!
Between December 1977 and January 1978, fear ran rampant in Sacramento, California. A neglected man is up to mischief in a quiet residential area. He invades gardens and houses, and once even peed in a chest of drawers full of baby clothes. But then suddenly people die.
Richard Chase shoots his first victim as he drives past
The first victim is a man who is about to unload groceries from the car. He is shot dead in his driveway by a passing car. The perpetrator just keeps driving. The crime, which the police initially believe to be a random murder, is only the beginning of a bloody series of murders that has left the city in fear and terror for weeks.

The perpetrator is Richard Chase, who experimented with drugs as a teenager and killed small animals and birds, as experts say in the crime series “Born to Kill – Born as a Murderer?” reconstruct on RTL+. In January 1978 he committed his second crime. This time his victim is a woman who is three months pregnant and is about to take out the trash.

Chase attacks a pregnant woman and a family of four
He doesn't just shoot her, like he did the man before. The police find the woman's body slashed in the bedroom. The perpetrator is said to have rummaged around in her intestines. And the police discover something else: At the crime scene, the murderer leaves behind a yogurt cup that he had filled with blood. Maybe he even drank it?
Just a few days later, the next horrific act happened. This time Richard Chase attacks an entire family. Police find father, mother and a five-year-old boy dead in their home. The perpetrator left traces all over the house. The bathtub is filled with bloody water, and this time too he has cut open the woman's corpse and removed organs. However, there is no trace of the dead couple's younger son.

Serial killer believed he could heal himself with the blood of his victims
Did Chase kidnap the 22-month-old boy? The police distribute wanted posters throughout the city and are finally able to catch the serial killer. The investigators also discovered blood everywhere in his apartment and a blender with crushed organs in it. However, there is still no trace of the missing toddler.
The boy's body was found weeks later by a caretaker in the neighborhood. The perpetrator beheaded the child and put it in a cardboard box, which he placed in a passageway between two empty buildings.

In court, Chase admitted to drinking his victims' blood. He claims he needs it for medical purposes. Apparently the serial killer had suffered from erectile dysfunction since his youth and thought he could cure himself with someone else's blood. Despite his mental illness and delusions, the court considers him to be guilty and sentences him to death. Before the execution took place, the man whom the media then called the “Vampire of Sacramento” committed suicide in his cell in December 1980.
