The Tegut market in the Mackenzell district of Hünfeld could be retained as a cooperatively organized “Tante Enso” store.
Hünfeld/Fulda – After the Breakup of the Fulda supermarket chain Tegutwhere the large branches at Edeka and Rewe should go, the future of the smaller locations is unclear. A possible solution is now emerging for Mackenzell: Enso eCommerce GmbH presented its “Aunt Enso” concept to representatives of local politics and clubs in the Hünfeld town hall.
“Aunt Enso” instead of Tegut: Citizens can get a supermarket
“'Aunt Enso' has specialized in smaller food markets in rural areas and approached the city of Hünfeld with the intention of including the market in Mackenzell in their portfolio,” says Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok. According to the city, the cooperative model stipulates that, in the first step, 600 shareholders will be recruited from the community, each of whom will subscribe for at least a share worth 100 euros. In this way, the location, local jobs and infrastructure should be secured in the long term; A partnership also brings with it further advantages for those involved.
The plan is to equip the market with technology so that customers can shop around the clock with a customer card and self-scanning checkouts. In addition, there will continue to be staffed opening hours as usual.

“We Mackenzellers now have it in our own hands to preserve the future of our local supply here in town,” says local mayor Katja Hartung-Jesensky. From their point of view, an “Aunt Enso” market is a benefit for the town and offers a unique opportunity to keep the quality of supply attractive or even improve it for the citizens in the catchment area. Udo Tischler, mayor of Molzbach, also says he is behind the project.
A citizen information event about the possible establishment of an “Aunt Enso” market will take place on Friday, June 19th at 6 p.m. in the “Goldener Engel” country inn in Mackenzell. As the mayor Katja Hartung-Jesensky and her Molzbach counterpart Udo Tischler report, the concept will be presented in detail and questions from citizens will be answered.
