20 special teams, spectacular exercises and operations under extreme conditions: In the federal police's nationwide comparison exercise on Thursday, the participants once again had to demonstrate team spirit, endurance and tactical skills. The team from Berlin won.

Hünfeld – After The 16th nationwide comparison exercise kicked off on the Wasserkuppe on Wednesday (May 27th). of the evidence preservation and arrest units (BFE) on Thursday (May 28th) in the next round. Since the early hours of the morning, the 20 police teams, each consisting of six people from the federal and state governments, have completed a total of eight demanding stations in East Hesse and the neighboring regions.

The approximately 120 emergency services had to demonstrate, among other things, their physical resilience, ability to work in a team, accuracy of aim and their tactical skills. The tasks took the teams to very different locations – from the Hünfeld federal police department's shooting range to deep underground in the Merkers adventure mine, to the Point Alpha memorial or to Lake Pfordter near Schlitz im Vogelsberg district.

The individual stations had names of well-known films such as “Titanic”, “Dunkirk” or “The Naked Gun”. Behind the creative titles were realistic operational scenarios: the teams had to complete shooting exercises under physical strain, transport an inflatable boat over land and water courses or rescue and care for injured people. In the Merkers adventure mine they also had to solve tasks in complete darkness and recover a “gold treasure”.

It was particularly spectacular at the “No way up” station on Lake Pfordter. The teams were flown in by helicopter from the station in Bad Hersfeld before the six men in full gear jumped directly from ten meters into the water. Wet, with heavy equipment and under time pressure, they then had to recover various items and transport them to land.

The teams could decide for themselves how difficult the task should be: a total of four storage points were available to choose from. The further away the target point was, the more points there were. The weight of the transported items such as tires also played a role in the evaluation.

On the bank, colleagues from the teams loudly cheered on the participants. After around 20 minutes, the emergency services reached the finish line completely exhausted – soaked, out of breath and marked by the physically demanding task.

The teams were evaluated according to a points system. There were 36 points for first place at a station and 31 points for second place. In the end, the winner of the entire comparison exercise was the team with the highest total number of points across all ten stations.

In the evening the final exercise “Forrest Gump” was on the program in Hünfeld. The teams ran through the city center and along the Via Regia up to the Rößberg before reaching the destination on the grounds of the Federal Police Department. The winner this year is the team from Berlin – they will then be able to host the next comparison exercise.
