Sunny early summer weather today, risk of severe weather at the weekend: Germany is facing some severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and squalls in the coming days.

Offenbach/Fulda – Thursday (May 28th) shows this Weather once again from his friendly side: “Sunny and pleasantly warm early summer weather” is expected across the country, as the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach reports. Compared to the previous days, it is no longer quite as hotbut in the lowlands of the southwest the temperatures climb again to around 30 degrees.

In the east and north of Germany, the maximum values ​​in a cooler air mass are usually only between 20 and 25 degrees, according to the weather service. A special tip for those suffering from heat is the region around the North and Baltic Seas: there, the fresh sea breeze barely reaches 20 degrees.

According to the forecasts, Friday (May 29th) will start again with lots of sunshine. However, clouds will increasingly gather in the north as the day progresses. From the late afternoon onwards, some strong thunderstorms can develop there, spreading to the east and southeast in the evening and Saturday night. Heavy rain, large hail and severe squalls must then be expected in places, it continues. In the south of Germany, this development is barely noticeable at first: There will be “best bathing weather” again on Friday, while in the lowlands in the southwest and west the heat mark of 30 degrees is often reached again.

In Hesse Meteorologists expect maximum temperatures of 27 to 32 degrees on Friday. A moderate wind is blowing. With thunderstorms approaching from the northwest during the day, strong to stormy gusts are possible.

By the weekend at the latest, the “flawless summer weather” will be over across the country. And there is a threat of a big bang. Saturday (May 30th) strong thunderstorms will form, especially in the middle and partly also in the south of Germany, with a local risk of severe weather. Especially in the southwest half it remains humid to hot, in the lowlands it often reaches around 30 degrees again. Also in East Hesse and the region Fulda it's 30 degrees. Since the air is significantly more humid compared to the previous days, according to the DWD meteorologists, a noticeably increased level of humidity can be expected.

“Full-blown storms are likely locally,” says meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net with a view to Saturday. “Flooded streets, full basements and falling trees are unfortunately part of the risk,” writes Jung at hna.de.

Even on Sunday (May 31st), the last day of the month, the weather remains changeable and humid in many parts. According to the forecast, strong thunderstorms with the potential for severe weather will occur again in the center and south. In the north, showery rainfall can be expected at times. The best chances of longer sunshine are in the northeast. At the same time, the temperatures overall are falling slightly, but are still in the summer range.
