SV Wehen Wiesbaden has won the Hessen Cup! SG Barockstadt lost 2-1 to the third division team after a self-sacrificing performance.

Offenbach – “Hessen Cup winners SVWW” echoed on the Bieberer Berg. SV Wehen Wiesbaden celebrated defending their title and making it into the DFB Cup after the more than 100 minutes previously against SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz had cost a lot of strength. The SGB showed a strong performance and was the better team at times, but ultimately stood on the pitch with their heads down.

After a 3-0 win in the round of 16 at VfR Groß-Gerau, SG Barockstadt found their way to the final via two wins in the penalty shootout against Türk Gücü Friedberg and Kickers Offenbach. SV Wehen Wiesbaden had to struggle in the quarter-finals when Hessenliga team FSV Fernwald was leading 3-0 at half-time against the third division team. Ultimately, Wiesbaden won on penalties. SGB coach Daniyel Cimen made a change to the starting eleven for the last regional league game of the season: Sebastian Schmitt returned to the starting line-up for Moritz Reinhard.

“With courage and morale to the DFB Cup” was the banner of the baroque city fans. And above all, the SGB players showed courage on the pitch. The Fulda team were the better team for much of the first half and had two good opportunities to take the lead. First, striker Tobias Göbel rushed past a cross from Moritz Dittmann (13th). The most striking Baroque City player then had the best chance to score in the second half after Göbel's preparatory work, but he should have taken the direct shot five meters in front of the goal (18th). The favored third division team couldn't think of anything against the good SGB defense for a long time before Justin Janitzek took the lead for Wehen Wiesbaden with the first, not well-hit shot (37th).

Thanks to the strong saves by Barockstadt goalkeeper and semi-final hero Samuel Zapico against Tarik Gözüsirin and Lukas Schmelzer in stoppage time in the first half, the Fulda team still had every chance of securing a ticket for the DFB Cup in the second half. And it only took two minutes before SG Barockstadt was able to equalize: Leon Pomnitz won the ball and did it alone, scored with the help of the inside post and cheered with his teammates in front of the fan block (48th). The supporters were now really energized, but suffered a setback ten minutes later when Schmelzer caught Zapico on the wrong foot and scored to give Wehen Wiesbaden the lead again (59').

As a result, both teams did not seek risks, but Cimen still switched offensively and threw everything forward in the final phase. But SG Barockstadt didn't have a clear chance to score even in stoppage time, which lasted well over nine minutes – and the yellow-red card against Wiesbaden's Jordy Gillekens after a tussle with Göbel before a corner didn't help either (90+3). Three minutes earlier, referee Christoph Rübe's whistle remained silent after a push in the penalty area against Tim Korzuschek. In the end, the SVWW players hugged each other and celebrated their success in the Hessen Cup.

SG Baroque City: Zapico; Kraft (77th Iljazi), Habermehl (83rd Arcanjo Köhler), Frey, Hillmann (73rd Korzuschek) – Ivankovic, Sarpei – Dittmann, Pomnitz, Schmitt (63rd Reinhard) – Göbel.
