Overall, fewer crimes were registered in Schlüchtern in 2025. However, statistics show a significant increase in burglaries and thefts.

Schlüchtern – Significantly fewer crimes, but a noticeable increase in burglaries and thefts: The police recorded a decrease in overall crime in Schlüchtern in 2025, but at the same time a strong increase in property crimes. However, the number of crimes increased across the district in 2025.

The evaluation now presented for the 2025 reporting year also shows that the level of crime in Schlüchtern has also reduced. As the police headquarters in Southeast Hesse reports, the frequency number (HZ) – the number of crimes per 100,000 inhabitants – fell from 3,950 to 3,600. The clearance rate in 2025 was 66.6 percent.

Crime in Schlüchtern: Less violence, but more thefts

For the reporting year 2025, 566 crimes were registered in Schlüchtern and 377 cases were solved. In the previous year there were 637 cases. This corresponds to a minus of 11.1 percent, as can be seen from the 2025 crime statistics from the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters. Despite the lower number of cases, the clearance rate fell slightly from 69.1 to 66.6 percent. In total, the police identified 298 suspects. According to statistics, four of these were children under the age of 14, twelve young people between the ages of 14 and 18 and 22 adolescents between the ages of 18 and 21. With 250 people, adults made up the clear majority of the suspects.

Despite the overall decline in crime, the picture was significantly different when it came to theft. Simple thefts increased from 102 to 123 cases. The increase in thefts under aggravating circumstances was even greater. These offenses, known as particularly serious cases of theft, go beyond the basic offense of simple theft and are punished more severely because the actions demonstrate particular criminal energy or dangerousness. Here, 61 crimes were recorded in Schlüchtern, after 38 in 2024 – an increase of a good 60 percent.

According to police statistics, the development in residential burglaries is particularly striking: the number of registered cases rose from three to eleven. Thefts from motor vehicles also increased noticeably and “climbed” from five to 13 crimes.

Street crime in Schlüchtern is becoming a new focus

In contrast, violent crimes mostly decreased. The so-called brutality crimes – including physical injuries in particular – fell from 104 to 82 cases. Crimes against sexual self-determination more than halved from 33 to 15 crimes. Drug-related offenses also fell sharply, falling from 30 to 14. Robbery hardly played a role in Schlüchtern in 2025: the statistics only show one case.

However, in the area of street crime – which includes certain thefts and damage to property in public spaces – there is an opposite trend. The number of cases rose from 90 to 105 offenses. The police see this increase in the combined category as a noticeable focus in public space.
