Cardiological care in Vogelsberg is being expanded. Tobias Plücker has been working at Eichhof again since spring 2026, parallel to the practice in Grebenhain.
Lauterbach – Cardiological care in Vogelsberg is being strengthened: The former Eichhof chief physician Tobias Plücker has been working at the Lauterbach Hospital again since spring of this year – this time as an attending physician.
The internist and cardiologist has been cooperating with the Eichhof Hospital since spring 2026, as the Eichhof Lauterbach Foundation reports. At the same time, Plücker runs his own practice for internal medicine and cardiology in Grebenhain. With six employees and almost 4,000 patient cases per year, this practice has already become an important contact point for people with heart disease in the region after just one year.
Cardiology in Vogelsberg: Ex-chief physician returns to Eichhof
“I am very happy to be able to work again at my old place of work in familiar surroundings and with people I really appreciate,” emphasizes Tobias Plücker. The new constellation is a special situation for everyone involved with only positive aspects: he knows the team at Eichhof and the processes exactly and can therefore get involved quickly and easily. For his patients, according to Plücker, the cooperation means care close to home and “medicine from a single source”.
The Grebenhain cardiologist currently looks after his patients once a week in the cardiac catheter laboratory (HKL) at the Lauterbach hospital. In emergencies, he can also be on site at short notice. According to the company, further care is guaranteed if necessary, as the Eichhof Hospital works closely with larger clinics such as the Fulda Clinic.
Plücker's return also met with approval from the team in the specialist department. The functional manager of the cardiac catheter laboratory, Xenia Schönfeld, says in her own words that she “speaks from the soul of the entire team” when she says that they are excited about the renewed collaboration. The cooperation worked seamlessly from day one.
For the department of internal medicine/cardiology under chief physician Dr. For Christian Schultze, working with his specialist colleague is a significant enrichment. “Patients from the southern Vogelsberg district in particular, who come to us via Tobias Plücker, expand the catchment area,” explains Schultze. Senior physician Kalin Gospodinov adds that the primary care of his colleague's patients who are admitted to the hospital takes place in the hospital. During follow-up treatment, your trusted doctor will be available to you again. This is ensured through the cooperation and is a great relief for those affected.
Eichhof boss speaks of a “win-win situation”
For managing director Thomas Faust, the collaboration represents a classic “win-win situation”. The basis is an affiliated doctor contract, which can only be concluded with an established specialist, as he explains. Since not every hospital has its own cardiac catheterization laboratory, people in rural areas in particular would otherwise fall behind. “When it comes to heart disease, the most important factors are time and medical help. Every minute counts,” emphasizes Faust.
This gap can be closed with the new cooperation. The additional utilization by Tobias Plücker's patients is an important factor – especially against the background of the current hospital reform – in securing the location of the cardiac catheter laboratory in Lauterbach. “We are thus fulfilling our care mandate and are happy to be able to provide a recognized doctor with enormous experience – also with regard to hospital processes – with the best possible care for heart patients in his practice,” says Faust literally.
For Tobias Plücker himself, the focus is on the benefits for patients. The cooperation is “an excellent solution for me and my patients and represents a significant improvement in care.” Time and proximity to the nearest hospital with a cardiac catheterization laboratory are essential factors for optimal treatment. From a medical point of view, the collaboration with the Eichhof means one thing above all: comprehensive, holistic care from a single source. He is particularly pleased that his former colleagues welcomed him back into the team so warmly.
