A fatal accident occurs during an exercise
On Monday evening (May 11th), a federal police officer was fatally injured during shooting training at the Bundeswehr's Putlos military training area near Oldenburg in Holstein. Commissariat 1 of the Lübeck criminal police and the Lübeck public prosecutor's office initiated investigations that evening to clarify what happened: “We already evaluated the first traces and clues yesterday evening. According to the current situation, the current knowledge suggests that this was an accident.”explains Ulli Fritz Gerlach from the Lübeck police in an interview with RTL.

How exactly the federal police officer died is still being determined

The officer is injured so badly that any help comes too late. “The context and under what circumstances these fatal injuries occurred is now part of the ongoing investigation,” explains the spokesman in an interview with RTL. Gerlach explains that the investigators will continue to conduct interviews and evaluate traces in the coming days.
GSG 9 federal police officer dies
The Lübeck police do not provide any information about the victim: “This is also a very sensitive investigation and that is why we are not providing any information at the moment,” explains Ulli Fritz Gerlach. The incident shocked the emergency services and Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) also expressed his condolences: “Yesterday evening there was a very tragic accident during a GSG9 shooting exercise. A GSG9 police officer was killed. I am deeply shocked by this terrible event.”
