Great concern for Bonnie Tyler. The singer is undergoing emergency surgery in Portugal. At first the prognosis was good, but now her condition has reportedly worsened significantly.
Bonnie Tyler is reportedly in an induced coma. During a stay of several days in a clinic in Faro in her adopted home of Portugal, her condition is said to have worsened following an emergency operation on her intestines. The 74-year-old British singer is said to be in the hospital's intensive care unit and receiving artificial ventilation. The prognosis for her condition is uncertain, reports the Portuguese daily newspaper “Correio da Manha,” among others.
As of Wednesday, her condition was described as stable. A spokesperson for the singer said: “We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she resides, to undergo urgent intestinal surgery.” The spokesperson continued: “The operation went well and she is now recovering.” Tyler was originally scheduled to start her “Jubilee” tour in the fall. Given the current situation, it is completely unclear whether and when this can take place.
At the beginning of 2025, Bonnie Tyler had to adjust her tour plans due to knee pain and a subsequent operation. In an interview with “Hello!” She spoke openly about her health problems. “I had problems with my knees, so I underwent a so-called 'washout', a knee surgery procedure, which has proven to be very successful. Hopefully this will last for a long time.”
To keep herself fit, the singer says she exercises regularly. “Just 20 minutes of Pilates a day – I can do that in my hotel room.” However, overall she feels in good shape. “I'm fit enough at the moment and I'm really enjoying the performances. I'm still rocking on stage with my wonderful band and when you're healthy you have everything.”
Tyler has been active as a musician for around five decades. She recorded her first single at the age of 25. In 1976 she had her big breakthrough with the second single “Lost in France”. Some of her best-known songs include “It’s A Heartache” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” She is one of the best-selling musicians ever – she is said to have sold more than 100 million records in her long and successful career. Because of her grating voice, Bonnie Tyler was often compared to singer Rod Steward.
