Frozen, packaged or from the bakery?Ready-made cakes in the test – which you can serve to your guests without a guilty conscience
If I had expected you today, I would have cake!
All the better if you always have one of the chests – just in case. And the selection of ready-made cakes is large: frozen, packaged or from the bakery. But are the products any good? Or is home-baked the real deal? We had a baking influencer test it – with amazing results.
Amazing results from our cake test
Which cakes are visually and qualitatively convincing and could easily pass for home-baked? And what about the price? For our test we bought different cakes: frozen, packaged and from the bakery. Let's start with cheesecake – at best, a wonderfully creamy delicacy that you can spoon away.

Baking influencer Sally Özcan and RTL reporter Larissa Thomé do a taste test ‒ and are especially disappointed by the frozen cheesecake, which looks so perfect. The women think the cake has a strange taste. “Quark with starch, like having vanilla pudding powder in your mouth”says Sally. In addition, the cheesecake from the freezer contains many additives ‒ which don't need it at all, explains the expert: “Because it is frozen, which ensures its shelf life.”

The baker's cheesecake has a dry cream and a wet dough base ‒ no taste highlight. The packaged cheesecake is surprising: “Slightly vanilla, lemony, it tastes really good,” said Sally. And: The list of ingredients is surprisingly short. The Regal cake is also impressive in terms of price: 65 cents per 100 grams, just under one euro per piece. The frozen product is a little cheaper at 56 cents per 100 grams, but it doesn't taste as good. The cake from the bakery costs more than twice as much at 1.33 euros!
