Schlüchtern – Mayor Matthias Möller (independent) invited around 50 citizens to take a tour of the new main building on the former Langer site. It wasn't until March that anyone interested got an idea of the construction progress. Together with experts – including Klaus Diegelmann from the building's investor, the Werner Group from Fulda – he gave exclusive insights into the new piece of jewelry.
First tour of the new Obertor building in Schlüchtern
In the future, a modern tourist information center on the ground floor will invite locals and guests to visit. Interior designer Judith Schäfer, known as Kalte Markt President 2024, explained the detailed planning of the city's new flagship.
After entering, the entire region is clearly displayed on an information wall on the right-hand side. In the middle of the room, which is completely barrier-free, guests will find contacts for their concerns. They are operated “on two levels”: standing or sitting, depending on your wishes or options. A bench in the window made of regional wood invites you to take a breather or have a chat. The tourist information office is also a transit area for the new post office behind it.
On floors one and two, both of which are barrier-free accessible with an elevator, ultra-modern office spaces were created that provide space for important parts of the administration. In the future, the regulatory administration (for example with the residents' registration office and trade office, cemetery administration and social services office) as well as the family, culture and tourism area with the topics of child day care and culture as well as tourism will find their place. A conference room was also created for meetings of the parliamentary groups in the city parliament.
Modern administration and boarding hotel under one roof
“My employees will work completely differently here,” emphasized Möller. The work will be completely restructured. The bright, light-flooded and glass rooms give an impression of this. With these “open work areas” the administration will be much closer to the citizens. Möller is already looking forward to the new way of working with people. Of course, this will also mean a big change for his team, emphasizes Möller. His team must first be trained in the new conditions during day-to-day operations, he says and asks for your understanding.
The “icing on the cake” in the Obertor building is the new “Boarding Hotel” with ten rooms on the top floor. Here, for example, business travelers, fitters and construction workers or even tourists can find accommodation. The rooms are modernly furnished and have a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a private bathroom.
An eyewear shop, a clothing store for children's fashion and a bakery and café will be located adjacent to the building complex around the Obertor. There are also numerous modern apartments available.
The guests on the first tour were very impressed by what was on offer. “Very nice”, “appealing” and “Schlüchtern gets a great flagship” were just some of the comments. The official opening is scheduled for Thursday (May 28th).
