On the afternoon of May 1st, all fire departments in the town of Romrod im Vogelsberg were called to a forest fire operation. Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control.
Romrod – It hasn't rained heavily for a long time, so the risk of forest fires is increasing. On May 1st the time had come in a forest near Romrod in Vogelsberg. The emergency services were called to a level F2 wildfire.
A piece of forest in Vogelsberg is on fire – 60 firefighters on duty
As deputy city fire inspector Volker Schwenz Feier reported on site, the fire had spread over an area of around 100 by 100 meters – one hectare. The fire fighters fought the flames with a force of 60 people – supported by the Alsfeld and Schwalmtal fire departments. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control fairly quickly.
And this despite the fact that the water supply in the remote forest was difficult. According to Schwenz Feier, the fire department was on site with several tank fire engines. The large clouds of smoke had at least one advantage for the fire brigade: they could easily find the fire site because it could be seen from a long distance away. The nearby B49 was completely closed during the operation.
Last summer there were repeated forest fires and wildfires in Vogelsberg, such as during a fire near Lauterbach, when a total of 120 emergency services fought the flames.
