The “Segeljungs” in an interviewFour friends, one adventure – with no idea about the world
Four friends, one sail, all oceans.
Immediately after graduating from school, Tim, Vince, Michi and Tom plunge into the greatest adventure of their lives: They want to cross all the world's oceans on a sailing ship. The catch? They can't sail! On RTL, the boys reveal what challenges they had to overcome to achieve their dream and why their journey almost failed!
“Let’s just buy a sailboat and sail around the world”
Tim, Vince, Michi and Tom's trip around the world began on September 20, 2018. The boys' group's sailing boat leaves the port of Fehmarn. The four friends are only between 18 and 20 years old at this point. Only Tim and Michi are familiar with the basic rules of sailing. But there was virtually no real “practical experience,” Tim admits in an RTL interview.

Nevertheless, the four boys decided to travel around the world on a sailing boat – for good reason: “We wanted to do something big, something cool after graduating from high school,” explains Michi and reveals the initiator: “Tim, I think, was the one who did it came up with the stupid idea and said: 'Let's just buy a sailboat and sail around the world.'“

For this big dream, however, the group of friends first had to raise some money: “To buy the boat, we borrowed money from my brother,” explains Tim. But the trip itself also had to be financed: the four boys financed the food, fuel and repairs with videos about the trip on the internet – material from which the currently running film “Sail Boys – Around the World with No Idea” was created.

Through the English Channel to Spain and Portugal via Morocco and the Canary Islands and out into the Atlantic: the four friends' boat took them 463 kilometers off the Atlantic coast. Then came the shock: a sudden engine failure – which marked the beginning of the end.
Although the four boys were able to repair the engine, the sailing ship slowly gave up. A new one was needed. Luckily, they got a cheap boat from a fan. “It was a chance for us to start this trip again,” explained Tim – but unfortunately this time only with the two of us. Because Michi left the crew because of mental problems, Tom because he didn't feel like it anymore.
“When the other two guys dropped out, we were definitely disappointed, and that kind of tore the ground out from under us,” reveals Vincent in the RTL interview. But the two boys don't want to give up on their dream yet!
