According to Roman Poseck, Fulda combines tradition and modernity in fire protection. The Hessian Interior Minister visited the fire brigade museum and the rescue control center.
Fulda – On Friday evening (April 24th), Homeland Security Minister Roman Poseck honored the living history of fire protection at the German Fire Brigade Museum in Fulda. The CDU politician presented the museum director Bernd Müller-Strauß with a grant of 1,000 euros from lottery funds to support the modernization of the museum.
Roman then visited Poseck the central rescue control center in Fulda, a state-of-the-art centerpiece of Hessian emergency care, which has been coordinating emergency calls (112) and requests for help (19222) around the clock since July 2021. From here, life-saving operations are coordinated in an emergency ADAC rescue helicopter Christoph 28 alerted.
Center of modern security architecture: Minister pays tribute to Fulda
During his visit to Fulda, Interior Minister Roman Poseck emphasized: “The German Fire Brigade Museum highlights the tradition and importance of fire protection in Hesse and beyond.” “With today’s handover of funds from the lotto-Funding we support the modernization of this unique place. The history of the German fire brigade comes to life here.”
“In the future, the history of the Technical Relief Agency will also be exhibited in the museum. This is not only a preservation of tradition, but also an investment in the future of our fire department,” explained the minister. “I would like to thank everyone responsible for their commitment to the museum. This place is and remains a worthwhile excursion destination for all citizens of Hesse and beyond.”
Fulda is not only a place of tradition, but also a center of modern security architecture. While the German Fire Brigade Museum keeps the rich history of fire protection alive, one of the most modern rescue control centers in Hesse is just a few 100 meters away. Fulda combines historical responsibility with future-oriented infrastructure in an exemplary manner.
“Fulda remains a central location for fire protection and help in emergencies and is visible through modern infrastructure and historical tradition,” explained Roman Poseck. “The modern rescue control center in Fulda is a symbol of quick help and secure communication in emergencies. With its high-quality technology and 24/7 staffing, it is a central pillar of fire and civil protection.”
Particularly demanding operational situations around the Wasserkuppe or due to topography and recreational traffic would require a powerful control center. “We have that right here in Fulda. This control center shows that investments in modern infrastructure pay off for the safety of citizens. My thanks go to all employees who save lives every day with their commitment and professionalism.”
According to the Interior Ministry, in 2025 the Fulda rescue control center received 46,188 emergency calls via 112 and 11,321 requests for help via 19222. “With around 20 employees working every day, lives are saved here every day.” The control center not only coordinates operations in the Fulda district and the city of Fulda, but is also a central contact for air rescue.
“This achievement is only possible thanks to highly qualified specialists, state-of-the-art technology and an efficient shift and staffing model. The numbers show that every minute counts. Behind these impressive numbers are people who prove every day anew what cohesion and commitment mean,” said Roman Poseck.
“Their commitment is tireless, often under difficult conditions and with great responsibility. Whether in the control center, in the volunteer fire departments or in the professional fire departments – our rescue workers are the real heroes on site. My heartfelt thanks go to each and every one of them. Their commitment is priceless and we will continue to support them with all the strength of the country.”
