Alsfeld – Two dead Egyptian goose chicks were discovered near the Erlenbad family and sports pool in Alsfeld, at the Erlenteich. Bird flu suspected in Vogelsberg: dead goose chicks found
“This suspected case still has to be confirmed by the Friedrich Löffler Institute, but the Vogelsberg District Veterinary Office is now asking for precautionary measures for their own protection and to protect their own domestic poultry populations,” the statement says.
The public is asked not to touch dead birds. You should also avoid walking through bird droppings. Special measures apply to poultry farmers in the district, which are set out in a general decree. Shoes must be cleaned and disinfected before entering and after leaving poultry areas.
Alternatively, disposable shoe covers can be used or shoes can be changed at the entrance to the stable. Food and bedding should be stored so that wild birds cannot access it. Feeding poultry may only take place in places that are inaccessible to wild birds. Only water that cannot be reached by wild birds should be used for drinking.
