Big stage, strong performances: With “The Voice of Fulda”, the region experienced a singing competition on Saturday evening that was reminiscent of large television formats in terms of atmosphere and quality. 17-year-old Susanne Vey secured victory at the premiere of the format.

Fulda – From rock and pop to hip-hop, there was pretty much everything to be heard musically that evening – even a song from a Broadway musical. Shaggy Schwarz, moderator and patron of the event, was impressed by the range of genres that the singers covered: “That shows how diverse the music is.”

A total of 17 candidates took part in 16 performances – including a duo had advertised in advance via video and had been selected by the organizers for the live show.

Who was allowed to end the evening as “The Voice of Fulda” was decided half by audience vote and the other half by the evaluation of a jury. The jury was made up of the musician Mike Müller (“Metal Mike”), the singer Jacky Kampa from the band Kult Klub, Fabian Kampa – as an illness replacement for Enrico G. Denzel from the Blackout recording studio in Künzell – and Musical actor Sascha Kurth, who will play the main role in “Schimmelreiter” in the summer.

The audience in the sold-out S-Club reacted enthusiastically after the first performances: they cheered, cheered and applauded loudly at the end of each performance. Some participants – like Celine Ziegler with “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet – knew how to captivate their audience with a particularly strong stage presence and encourage them to dance along.

Some artists did not impress with their covers of well-known songs, but with their own compositions. The 27-year-old Tawanda Majuru from Fulda stood out musically among the other participants on Saturday evening with “H-Town Vibez”. His self-written, English-language rap was stylistically based on US rap and, after a moment of getting used to it, audibly convinced the audience.

The winner's encore creates a particularly emotional moment

Jenny Schönherr, the organizer of “Voice of Fuldas” and singer of the band “Jenny and the Gang”, stayed mostly backstage during the event to look after the candidates. Her band provided musical accompaniment to the singers' performances. The singing talents were allowed to decide for themselves which songs they brought to the stage.

While the ballot papers were being evaluated, the audience was never bored: “Jenny and the Gang” demonstrated their own versatility as a band with their interpretations of Shirin David’s “tummy legs butt,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Her performance also showed that behind the “Voice of Fulda” there is an organizational team with a lot of music and stage expertise.

And then came the big moment of the evening, the three winners were announced: 28-year-old Celine Ziegler from Marbach took third place and earned a photo shoot including styling. Second place went to 25-year-old Fini Kircher from Rothemann, who convincingly sang Lady Gaga's “Always Remember Us This Way”. The prize for her was a recording studio recording.

The only 17-year-old Susanne Vey from Petersberg secured victory with “No Time To Die” by Billie Eilish. She won a radio microphone – personally handed over to her by musical singer Sascha Kurth – and was allowed to sing “The Voice of Fulda” for the coming year. All three runners-up also won a gig as band support for “Jenny and the Gang”. Susanne Vey was not allowed to give her encore on stage due to the Youth Protection Act due to the late time – but her singing in the midst of the visitors made for a particularly intimate and emotional moment.
