In a shopping center in Hanau, pickpockets stole from a 71-year-old woman and then went on a shopping spree with her debit card.

Hanau – Pickpockets stole the wallet of a 71-year-old woman in a shopping center in Hanau on Thursday afternoon (April 9th), police said. The perpetrators then went shopping with the stolen EC card and caused damage of more than 3,000 euros.

The incident occurred at the address “Im Forum” (single-digit house numbers). The thieves distracted the senior citizen between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and stole her wallet from her handbag unnoticed. In addition to cash, there were also cards in the wallet.

The thieves apparently immediately used the stolen cash card to make several purchases. As a result, the total damage for the Hanau woman amounted to over 3,000 euros.

The criminal police in Hanau are asking witnesses who can provide relevant information about the perpetrators to call (06181) 100123.

Pickpockets often take advantage of unobserved moments to steal wallets. It wasn't until mid-March that unknown people stole a woman's wallet in front of a shop in Gersfeld.
