Today Oliver Intemann works in a drinks store for minimum wage, lives in a shared apartment – and is happier than ever before. “Money is a beautiful thing per se, but you can't take it in your arms and it won't take you back either.” The former lottery winner has realized that human contacts are more valuable than a high account balance.

But the clear structure of his new life is also good for him: “It makes perfect sense for my mental health that I know what I have to do during the day: get up in the morning, go to work, finish work.”

Oliver's story went around the world at the time: First, the former post office employee hit the jackpot and won 1,769,941 marks and 30 pfennigs in the lottery (converted to exactly 904,956.01 euros), Years later, all luck left him. Oliver loses everything.
“Back then I was a bit, how shall I say, limitless“, explains Oliver in an interview with RTL. The lottery winner invested in stocks, helped friends financially, treated himself to a new car, expensive trips and ultimately quit his job at the post office – a mistake?

“When I no longer had any income from my postal job, of course I always had to take the money from the big mountain. And so the mountain got smaller and smaller and at some point the money ran out“, admits the former millionaire.

In 2007, Oliver ended up in emergency accommodation and had to rely on money from the job center. “Then I started a 1-euro job in a youth center” says the man from Bremen. But Oliver fought his way out of poverty.
