The fire department in Hünfeld is receiving 85 new radios. The old models are outdated. Do-it-yourself installation brings a big price advantage.

Hünfeld – The Hünfeld fire departments are to receive a total of 85 new digital radios. According to Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok (CDU), the total costs are around 67,500 euros. The devices are intended as replacements for the first generation of digital radio devices that were purchased in 2012 as part of the switch to digital radio.

The city of Hünfeld announced this in a press release. Many of the old radios are now worn out. They can no longer be operated with the current software standards. This leads to functional restrictions. In coordination with the fire departments, a need for a total of 85 devices was determined.

In addition, the city plans to purchase accessories such as charging stations for around 22,000 euros. Charging stations from a manufacturer that allow self-installation with standard plugs should be used. “A price advantage of around 11,500 euros can be achieved through self-installation alone,” concludes the statement from the Konrad-Zuse city.

Meanwhile, the Hünfeld fire department was last in action with a large contingent on Maundy Thursday evening. A shed in the Oberrombach district of Hünfeld burst into flames. Roof pieces flew around. The fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to the house.
