According to initial police investigations, a man in Berlin was killed by a falling flower pot. A police spokesman said on Monday evening that a tragic accident must now be assumed. The BZ had previously reported on the case.
The police and fire brigade were alerted to Vinetaplatz near Mauerpark at around 3:15 p.m. A rescue helicopter was also used. Rescue workers tried in vain to help the man. “The person had a very serious head injury,” said a spokesman for the Berlin fire department. The man died on site. The background to the accident is still unclear.
The BZ reported that strong winds could have torn the vessel from its anchorage on a balcony. The police did not provide any information, but referred to the ongoing investigation. The investigators also did not provide any further information about the accident victim and the relatives have not yet been informed.
The German Weather Service (DWD) had predicted gusts of wind for Berlin and Brandenburg on Monday. In Schleswig-Holstein, three people died during an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday when a tree fell on a group near Flensburg during strong gusts.
