Completely different than planned!
“Vampire Diaries” actress Candice King and her partner Steven Krueger tied the knot in a small chapel in Tennessee in February. Now they have revealed why their wedding went completely differently than planned.
Secret wedding in the closest family circle
Candice King (38) and Steven Krueger (36) got married. As they report to Vogue, the two actors exchanged vows in a small circle on a farm in Tennessee at the end of February. “We have decided to have a small elopement weekend in Nashville with just our immediate family members and postpone the big celebration until sometime next year”Krueger explains to the magazine. A total of 15 people were there, including King's two daughters from her previous marriage and Krueger's nieces. The couple's mutual best friend officiated at the wedding.
King and Krueger had actually planned a large wedding celebration for fall 2026. Then the pregnancy intervened with their first child together, which is due to be born in May. It was precisely this change in plans that made the wedding so perfect, Krueger enthuses: “It wasn't at all how I had imagined my wedding when I was younger. We were able to breathe, laugh, cry and concentrate completely on each other without worrying about whether everything went according to plan.”
Difficult search for the wedding dress
“We focused on the essential triumvirate: photos, flowers and food,” he continued. His wife found the location for the ceremony on Instagram, she already knew the florist, and they booked a steakhouse for the reception party.
Finding the right dress was a little trickier. “There's shockingly not a big market for wedding dresses that fit over a baby bump,” jokes King. She was afraid of feeling like a marshmallow. Ultimately, she found a layered long-sleeve, off-the-shoulder crepe creation from Grace Loves Lace at a local bridal salon. “It had enough structure to be romantic and enough stretch to fit my belly,” she said. Her husband opted for a classic black tuxedo from Armani.

Car breaks down before leaving for the wedding
Of course, the day wasn't entirely without mishaps. The vintage limousine that was supposed to take the family to the chapel broke down before it left. “I didn’t want to be late for my own wedding, so all four of us got in the car, in tuxedos and white dresses, and drove ourselves”Krueger remembers. When they finally stood at the altar, it felt as if “the rest of the world was continuing to descend into chaos while we had this little corner of the world all to ourselves. Time seemed to stand still and felt like a love song.”
The evening before, the bride and groom had forgone a classic rehearsal dinner and instead held a crime dinner with the family – under the motto “Till death do us part”. “It was every bit as cheesy and absurd as you'd imagine. I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time,” said King.

Two TV vampires come together
Candice King and Steven Krueger become known through the “Vampire Diaries” universe. She plays the vampire Caroline Forbes, he plays the vampire Josh Rosza in the spin-off “The Originals”. They speak to each other for the first time at a dinner with other cast members in 2023. The engagement will follow in May 2025 and the pregnancy will be announced in December. The couple is expecting a boy. (jve/spot on news)
