In the snapshot, Carl Gustaf is wearing a dark green sweater with a zipper and a cap with the inscription “Vasaloppet”, the largest cross-country skiing event in the world in the Swedish province of Dalarna. Silvia stands by his side in a light gray winter jacket with red accents. Both smile relaxed into the camera.
Tradition for years: Jämtland instead of a palace
Carl Gustaf and Silvia spending the holidays away from Stockholm has long since become a regular habit. The mountainous Jämtland region in northern Sweden, known for its natural beauty and winter sports, is the royal couple's preferred Easter destination. The two of them like to show themselves there without strict royal conventions and, for example, last year they greeted each other casually from the lounge chairs at Easter with sunglasses and casual clothing.
For the royal couple, who have been on the throne for 53 years, the Easter holiday is a well-deserved break after an already very busy spring. In March, among other things, they completed a three-day state visit to Poland including a state banquet, a visit to the opera and parliament. Back in Sweden, they celebrated with their children Prince Carl Philip (46) and Princess Madeleine (43) at a special screening of the show “Mamma Mia! The Party”. Queen Silvia also traveled to Düsseldorf on a special occasion: There, the German-born woman signed the guest book of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and visited a house belonging to the World Childhood Foundation, which she founded.
