After the Thalaubach Valley Bridge was blown up, Autobahn GmbH reported free travel on the B279 near Eichenzell. The cycle path will remain closed until April 24th.
Eichenzell – After the old Thalaubachtal valley bridge was blown up Federal highway 279 between Eichenzell-Döllbach and Ebersburg-Thalau is now freely passable in both directions. The B279 had been completely closed under the bridge since Monday, March 2nd.
As Autobahn GmbH reports, the cutting, sorting and removal of the bridge rubble on the federal highway has now been completed and the roadway has been cleaned. According to the company, traffic safety has been restored.
Closure on B279 lifted after the viaduct was blown up
For the demolition of the two old partial structures on Sunday, March 15th, a fall bed 30 meters wide and up to four meters high was built on and next to the federal highway. The bridge parts fell onto this protective layer during the demolition.
However, there are still restrictions off the road: the cycle and farm path below the bridge is expected to remain closed until Friday, April 24th. According to Autobahn GmbH, the background is that the cutting, sorting and removal of the remaining bridge rubble in the area next to the federal highway will continue until June.
