District Administrator Dr. Jens Mischak recently visited the Schlitzer company in Metzendorf. The family is now in its eleventh generation running the company.
Schlitz – “I keep getting to know amazing companies in the Vogelsberg district. That's just why I like these visits so much: you can easily see how many great companies and businesses we have here,” explained Mischak, visibly impressed during his visit to the traditional company. He was accompanied by Andrea Ortstadt from the district's economic development agency, Jens Pietsch from the KVA Vogelsbergkreis and Mayor Heiko Siemon.
Vogelsberg district administrator visits Schlitzer company Metzendorf
The company is involved in many projects in the city, but also beyond: whether in the renovation of the outdoor pool in Schlitz, the design of the outdoor facilities at the Schlitzerland comprehensive school, the “Hahnekiez” cultural quarter or the construction of gas stations across Germany – Metzendorf presents itself as a broad-based service provider, according to a statement from the Vogelsberg district. “The construction of gas stations and the construction of charging points on motorways now make up a large part of our business,” explained Sebastian Metzendorf.
Around 50 employees are currently employed at Metzendorf, including six trainees. Wilhelm Nicklas Metzendorf was accepted into the Schlitz stonemason guild as early as 1712. “Since then, the family tradition has been maintained and the vocation of the building trade has been passed on from generation to generation,” said the current owner, who is now in the eleventh generation of running the company. And the twelfth generation is already in the starting blocks to continue the legacy.
The entrepreneur's daughters plan to take over the company one day and are currently undergoing the appropriate training: while one daughter is learning the bricklaying trade in Lauterbach, the older one is studying construction management in Giessen. In addition to national projects, the company is primarily active at home. “We are currently building apartment buildings here in Schlitz. The 'An der Burg' family doctor's practice, which is already located here, will be moving into one of them next year,” reported the managing director.
According to the district statement, the visit offered Mischak and his companions an opportunity for an intensive exchange about regional economic policy, training paths and the general quality of the location. “Here in Schlitz we have a strong mix of traditional craftsmanship and modern, forward-looking infrastructure,” summarized Mischak. “A company like this, which spans the spectrum from the classic construction trade to the future-oriented construction of charging stations, is an example of how regional companies can successfully master modern requirements.” (rsb)
