A truck weighing several tons sets off from Italy with confectionery to deliver it to several countries. Then the truck is stolen. There could be a risk of Kit Kat shortages in supermarkets at Easter of all times.
Shortly before Easter, twelve tons of Kitkat chocolate bars were stolen. The company said a truck carrying 413,793 packs of Kit Kat was “stolen while in transit in Europe”. The theft could lead to Kit Kat shortages on supermarket shelves ahead of the Easter holidays.
The chocolate bar brand, which belongs to the Swiss food giant Nestlé, did not disclose where exactly the truck was stolen. The truck had therefore started in Italy and was on its way to Poland. He was supposed to deliver the crunchy chocolate bars in several countries along the way.
There was initially no trace of the truck or the goods, as Kitkat explained. “The investigation is ongoing in close collaboration with local authorities and supply chain partners.”
The stolen chocolate bars could now reach the market through unofficial sales channels, Kitkat explained. But they could be tracked down via their barcode. If there is a hit on the scanner at the supermarket checkout, “clear instructions” will be given as to how Kitkat should be informed, the company said.
