Criticism from Öko-TestIt's better to leave this leave-in conditioner out than in!

No-rinse hair care: What’s really in it?
istock/Evrymmnt
Easy hair care, yes – but without compromises!
Conditioner to spray on after washing your hair is practical: no exposure time, no rinsing. It's just stupid if the care results are clouded by critical ingredients. Four products fail the Öko-Test.
Which ingredients end up on your head?
Öko-Test bought 19 leave-in conditioners between 2.21 and 37.49 euros per 150 milliliters, most of them for spraying. They are intended to care for the hair and make it easier to comb. “But you can also put an extra portion of questionable ingredients on your head that will stay there at least until the next time you wash your hair,” says the consumer magazine.
Öko-Test criticizes all of the test losers for the PEG/PEG derivatives they contain, which can make the skin more permeable to foreign substances. This is particularly worrying with conditioners that contain other critical substances.

Not so smelly: The worst conditioners in the test
With “insufficient” is the Cantu Shea Butter Hydrating Leave-in Conditioning Mist from PDC Brands (4.08 euros) the worst conditioner in the test. The reason: It contains, among other things, an artificial musk scent, which is suspected of affecting the hormonal system. The UV filter used, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, is also considered to have a potential hormone effect.
Three other products are “poor” and therefore only slightly better. This includes, for example, Monday Moisture Moisture Leave-in Conditioner from Zuru Germany (5.95 euros). It contains chlorphenesin; the preservative is considered allergenic and can cause skin irritation. Öko-Test also criticizes the environmentally harmful plastic compounds in the recipe.

Luckily, there are also eight conditioners that Öko-Test finds “very good”. The cheapest is this Alverde Express spray conditioner moisture from dm (2.75 euros). That too Detangle My Hair detangling care spray from Jean&Len (5.99 euros) is top according to the test results.
