A 35-year-old caused significant train delays with a life-threatening climbing maneuver onto a signal bridge at Hünfeld station.
Hünfeld – The man climbed onto the signal bridge in the area of the train station in Hünfeld on Tuesday (March 17) around 6:30 a.m., the federal police said. State and federal police patrols immediately went to the scene. At this point, the tracks were already closed and the overhead line was switched off, it is said.
Eleven trains late: man climbs onto signal bridge
When the state police patrol arrived, the 35-year-old climbed down from the signal bridge and sat on the platform. There he was taken into custody by officers. According to the Federal Police, it is still unclear why the man climbed onto the signal bridge and is the subject of ongoing investigations.
The Federal Police Inspectorate has initiated administrative offense proceedings against the man. The campaign caused significant disruption to rail traffic: a total of eleven trains were delayed by 29 minutes each.
In connection with the incident, the federal police are urgently warning about the dangers in the area of overhead railway lines. “Overhead lines carry 15,000 volts of heavy current. This is around 65 times stronger than the current in a household socket. A safety distance of at least 1.5 meters is essential, as the current can arc as an arc – without touching the line. The lines are always live, even when no train is running,” says the authority.

The warning continues: “Never climb on trains, wagons or masts! Do not hold objects such as branches or kites near overhead lines! These are life-threatening actions!”
