Car burns in Fulda's old town – Friedrichstrasse is completely closed
As a police spokesman said when asked, the VW had been parked on Friedrichstrasse after a long journey. Shortly afterwards, passers-by noticed smoke coming from under the vehicle and then flames coming from the engine compartment.
While the fire brigade was extinguishing the fire, the street between Bonifatiusplatz and the parish church was completely closed – to cars, cyclists and pedestrians. The fire has now been extinguished and Friedrichstrasse has been reopened.
According to the fire department's initial assessment, the cause of the fire was a technical defect. No one was injured in the fire and there was an estimated property damage of 10,000 euros.
There have been repeated debates in the past to make Friedrichstrasse a pedestrian zone. However, there is also some resistance.
