Jörg Schönenborn becomes the new “Tagesthemen” presenter. The 61-year-old journalist is giving up his position as program director at WDR. According to his previous broadcaster, Schönenborn said: “The need for orientation among our audience has never been as great as it is today.” It is therefore important to him to report and explain in such a way that everyone can form their own opinion and draw their own conclusions. “That’s why I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a greater contribution in my new role.”
Schönenborn will host the show for the first time in the middle of the year. Jessy Wellmer and Ingo Zamperoni will present the “Tagesthemen” alternating with Schönenborn.

“Tagesschau” and “Tagesthemen” have been busy in recent weeks. Moderator Helge Fuhst left the responsible broadcaster NDR immediately to become the new editor-in-chief of “Welt” (owned by Axel Springer). Last week it was also announced that “Tagesschau 24” would be discontinued on December 31, 2026 and the special interest channel “Phoenix” from ARD and ZDF is to become the new priority program for current reporting. Overall, ARD and ZDF are saying goodbye to three channels at the end of the year. The background is austerity measures.
