The Schmalnau village meeting enlivens Ebersburg as a meeting place. The recent win of a game package shows that the concept is working.

Schmalnau – The rush in Schmalnau village meeting was great when Susanne Roser, coordinator of the Ebersburg village meeting and family center, opened the game package and presented the games she had won. The village meeting place can now call its own a total of 13 board, card and board games – including Qwirkle, Looping Louie, The Mind and Pictures.

This package is being given away by the Spiel des Jahr association in the form of the “Playing for Tolerance” initiative founded in 2018. He writes on his website that in this way projects are supported “that have the goal of strengthening the position of games as a cultural asset in society. Because games connect and do not divide.” Schools, libraries, but also cultural centers and socio-cultural institutions benefit from this. The Schmalnau village meeting place is one of these.

“The idea behind it is to bring people together through gaming. That's why we applied for this package. We want to offer even more for the citizens of Ebersburg,” reported Roser proudly. The club finally drew a draw for the village meeting and sent the package. Initially, the games should all be used for the village meeting, but they could also be used in other districts or community spaces.

Worth several hundred euros

“Games represent a completely different community because you can sometimes even play without words or great difficulty. That helps a lot,” said Roser. And the package arrived well. Several Ebersburgers from young to old tried out the games directly and were enthusiastic. They laughed, had fun and promised to come by more often. Game developer Joakim Engfors from Weyhers guided the Ebersburgers and read out the instructions. A regular games evening could also be established in the village meeting alongside the other events. The package with the 13 games is worth several hundred euros, as Roser explained.
