A brilliant result.
Glass cleaners are ideal for quickly removing dirt from mirrors and windows. But which ones can really do something and where does the visibility get even worse? Öko-Test tested 30 glass cleaners for their cleaning performance, streaks or drips and other possible defects and came to a crystal-clear conclusion.
Clean affair with the test winners
Of the 30 cleaners tested, four were rated “very good” by Öko-Test. And you don't even have to spend a lot of money for a top-of-the-line product. The “Denk with glass cleaner” from dm for 0.95 euros per liter is one of four test winners. The “Blink Professional Glass Cleaner” – available from Müller – for 1.99 euros per liter is also in the top group. If you only trust branded products, you can clean yourself with the “Ajax 3-fold active glass & coated surfaces” (2.78 euros per liter) and the Frosch glass cleaner spirit (3.98 euros per liter).

The cleaner from Müller is also good for the environment; it is certified with the EU Ecolabel (also known as the “EU flower”). All four cleaning agents left neither streaks nor droplets in the test; the test result in the practical test was rated “good” with a grade of 1.5.
According to the eco-test, one product stinks to high heaven
According to Öko-Test, you should stay away from one product. The “Glass Cleaner” from the non-food discounter Action for 0.89 euros per liter failed the test as “poor”. And that doesn't just have to do with its merely satisfactory cleaning performance, but above all with the ingredient formaldehyde.

The values measured in the test are still in a range in which the cleaning product can be sold. However, the disadvantages of formaldehyde are obvious. It is a colorless, pungent-smelling gas that can be carcinogenic and irritating to both the respiratory tract and the skin. Öko-Test justifies the grade “poor” as follows: “In our opinion, formaldehyde simply has no place, especially in cleaning products such as glass cleaners, which are regularly sprayed on mirrors etc. and can easily be inhaled.”

The overall balance shows: You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a very good and quick result. According to the manufacturers, the cleaners are also intended to support small areas. Öko-Test also recommends an old but effective home remedy for cleaning large windows: water with a little dish soap.
