Three years of searching are over.
In June 2023, Belgian backpacker Céline Cremer from Liège will travel through Tasmania. Her trail is lost in the jungle and the police only find her car. A few weeks ago, during a large-scale search, a 25-year-old came across human remains. Now there is sad certainty that she is the missing person.

Tasmanian (25) found human remains in the jungle

“With the consent of her family, police can confirm that the remains recently found near Philosopher Falls, Waratah, have been tentatively linked to missing Belgian woman Céline Cremer,” Tasmania Police said on its Facebook page.

“Tasmania Police extends its deepest condolences to Miss Cremer's family and loved ones,” Police Commander Nathan Johnston said. Human remains found by 25-year-old Tasmanian Jarrod Boys on January 28 have been examined. An expert report provides “convincing evidence” that it is most likely Céline Cremer.

Police thank citizens and search and rescue workers

“While this preliminary confirmation will not ease their pain, we hope the outcome will provide them with some clarity and closure,” it continued. A report is currently being prepared for the coroner, who will formally confirm the identity of the remains in his investigation.

“We thank the citizens for their continued support and interest in Céline’s case and acknowledge the tireless efforts of the search and rescue forces, partner organizations and volunteers who have invested a great deal of time and resources in the various search phases,” concludes Police Commander Johnston.
