A woman who went missing after walking with two dogs has been found dead in a shaft in Schleswig-Holstein. An accident cannot be ruled out, the police said. Emergency services found the 64-year-old from Hammoor in the Stormarn district, who had been missing since Wednesday afternoon, lifeless in a shaft leading from a stream on Thursday morning.
One of their dogs had previously been spotted dead in the water and recovered, as the police in Ratzeburg announced. The second animal was on a leash on the bank. It was spotted by a local resident on Thursday morning, prompting increased search efforts in the area. Emergency services first found the dead dog in the stream and then the woman in the shaft.
Officials said there was no evidence of a crime. The woman went for a walk with her dogs on Wednesday afternoon and did not return. She was reported missing to the police late on Wednesday evening around 11:30 p.m. According to the police, rescuing the dead from the shaft was difficult and took several hours. Officials opened a death investigation to clarify what happened.
