The plans for a new rescue station in Flieden were presented at the beginning of January. This will be built behind the TV gym.

Lilac – the snow was still thick, when the new rescue station in Flieden was inaugurated in January. Set up as a temporary solution in the premises of the LSS company near the construction yard, it has since represented an important addition, as Mayor Christopher Gärtner (CDU) emphasized during the most recent meeting of the Main, Finance, Economic and Digitalization Committee (HFWD): “If someone in the Flieden municipal area had an emergency before December 31st, 2025, the emergency service came from Neuhof. On January 1st, we got an ambulance that is stationed in Flieden.”

An additional vehicle is good for the core town and districts such as Rückers and Schweben, but it is relatively irrelevant whether the ambulance comes from Neuhof or Flieden. “But in Buchenrod, in Höf and Haid or on the Stork, a vehicle from Flieden gets there much faster.”

Plans for a new rescue station in Flieden are taking shape

“It is undisputed that a community like Flieden needs a rescue station,” emphasized Christoph Schwab, chairman of the DRK district association in Fulda. The numbers alone speak for themselves, as he explained: “To date, more than 300 missions have come from the currently provisionally set up rescue station in Flieden. Originally, around half were forecast.”

The temporary solution in Flieden has a measurably positive effect on the critical infrastructure: “We were able to shorten the time until the emergency service arrived by around six minutes. This gives us important time to avoid further consequential damage, for example in the event of an accident.”

The temporary structure should therefore become a permanent rescue station as soon as possible. “With the area behind the TV gym in Flieden, we have found the ideal location,” said Schwab happily. Half of the area belongs to TV Flieden and half to the municipality. Both sides are open to the project, as the DRK member explained. “I was pleased to hear that TV approved Flieden at the last meeting.”

Due to pipes that cross the property in the upper area near the rain overflow basin, the new building is to be built between the basin in the northern area and the handball field in the southern area. The initial plan is to build a wooden building with functional rooms for the DRK main office with an attached vehicle hall.

As Christine Brons, interior designer at the Fulda architectural firm Wuttke, explained, the functional rooms have space for, among other things, changing rooms and a lounge. The vehicle hall would have space for an ambulance and a replacement vehicle. To the west of the building, the design includes a parking lot with eight spaces. The newly created access will be via the Reichallee.

In a possible second construction phase, the building could be expanded so that volunteer work such as disaster control could also be accommodated. An extension building would then be added to the east, offering space for five more vehicles. The one-story station would become a two-story building that would house additional lounges, changing rooms and an office for volunteers. Additional parking spaces would also be added. As Schwab emphasized, this second construction phase is optional.

Regarding the question of financing the first construction phase, Schwab said that the health insurance companies would bear the costs. “I would conservatively estimate the cost framework at around two million euros,” said the association chairman. “The fact that we need a guard in Flieden was decided by the relevant committees in the district and also with the votes of the funding body. Negotiations are currently ongoing about everything else.”

The biggest hurdle is now the planning process. “Once this process is completed, the construction period will be one year,” said Schwab.

Klaus Leibold from TV Flieden noted that it would be disadvantageous for the club if only a small, undeveloped area remained in the northern area of the property where club members could do sports in the summer. The architecture firm therefore took up the suggestion to check whether the parking spaces could be placed in this area in order to obtain more free space in the direction of the TV gym.

“I am pleased that the DRK approached us and that TV Flieden also agreed at the general meeting to make part of its site available to the general public in the interests of public services,” said Mayor Gärtner. “Thank you.”
