Simone Biles (29) stands for power, control and golden moments. But now the gymnastics icon is showing a completely different side. In an Instagram story, she hints at how close it really was for her.

“Almost dying wasn’t on my list.” A sentence that probably leaves her fans in complete shock. The 29-year-old reported a serious emergency in her Instagram story. The seven-time Olympic champion leaves it open what exactly happened. But one photo says enough: three medical bracelets can be seen on her arm.
The American usually deliberately keeps private matters out of the public eye. This time she is making an exception. The experience was one of the most frightening of her life, Biles writes. And suddenly it's no longer about medals, records or perfect landings, but just about how dramatic this week really was for them.
Particularly bitter: Her husband Jonathan Owens apparently couldn't be with her at that moment. The football professional trained in Indianapolis while Biles had to endure this exceptional situation.

At the same time, the biggest question remains unanswered – Biles does not name a diagnosis or a trigger. She only writes that she rested in bed all week. At some point she wants to explain to those closest to her what was really going on.
Until then, fans will be left with concerns and many question marks. One thing is clear: Simone Biles has already won many fights. She had to endure this one far away from the big sports stage. And it was apparently shockingly close.
