The Fulda City Archives is celebrating a special anniversary this year: it is 125 years old – and will be presenting itself on this occasion at the Hessentag in Fulda.
Fulda – The Fulda City Archives invites visitors with a digital anniversary show and a historical scavenger hunt Hesse day to rediscover the city's history. The city of Fulda announced this in a press release. The occasion is the 125th anniversary of the city archive, which this year is presenting itself with its own stand in front of the courtyard of the city palace on the Pauluspromenade. The stand is open from June 15th to 21st.
Participatory activities and digital exhibition by the city archives on Hessentag
A special highlight at the stand is the digital anniversary exhibition “The Past Ahead: Fulda in Twelve Sources,” in which the city archive presents selected treasures from its holdings. The exhibition was specially designed for use on smartphones, can be accessed on site using a QR code and invites you to discover Fulda's history on the go.
The journey into Fulda's past begins in recent history and leads back step by step, starting from the Hessentag in 1990 and the positive developments in Fulda since the fall of the Wall, through the reconstruction after 1945, right up to the time of industrialization and the time of the Fulda Abbey. The selected sources tell of new beginnings and change, of social and technical developments, of people and their living environments in Fulda and extend to the oldest document in the collection.

There is also a hands-on activity: history is conveyed in a playful way with a Hessentag geocache. This is a digital scavenger hunt in which participants use GPS coordinates to visit various stations in the city center and take photos. The historical traces end at the city archives stand. Anyone who successfully completes all stations will receive a little surprise.
Participatory activity “Geocache for Hessentag” and selfie station
There is also a special selfie photo motif at the stand: a figure in baroque clothing is reminiscent of the archivists and secretaries of the so-called “High Princely Archive” of the Fulda Monastery in the 18th century.
In addition, cooperation partners will also be guests at the stand on a daily basis: The Hessian Institute for State History (Marburg) will be presenting its digital offerings in the Hesse State History Information System on June 15th, 19th and 20th. Among other things, the Hessian biography with information on important personalities, the historical local lexicon with existing and lost places as well as image documents, local views, historical maps and other sources are presented.
As a second cooperation partner, the Fulda History Association is on site on a daily basis. The archive team provides information every day about the city archive's offerings and offers information material about the historical offerings in Fulda and the surrounding area.
