In the Fulda district there were 51 fewer unemployed people in May than in April. The rate remains at 4.0 percent, making it the lowest in Hesse.
Fulda – The number of unemployed people in the Fulda district fell slightly in May. With 5,149 registered unemployed people, the region has 51 fewer people than in April. This emerges from the current report from the employment agency. The unemployment rate remains at 4.0 percent – the lowest value in all of Hesse, where the average is 5.9 percent.
Despite the monthly decline, the year-on-year comparison shows the effects of the weaker economy: compared to May of the previous year, the number of unemployed people rose by 195 people, which corresponds to an increase of 3.9 percent. In the previous year the rate was 3.8 percent.

According to a statement, 2,286 people are currently claiming unemployment insurance benefits at the employment agency in Fulda – a significant increase of 18.3 percent compared to the previous year. The district's job center, however, is recording a decline: with 2,863 unemployed people, 158 fewer than a year ago, a decrease of 5.2 percent.
Men are particularly affected by the increase in unemployment, with an increase of 6.0 percent to 2,900 people. Machine and system operators as well as employees in the security industry are increasingly affected. Unemployment also rose disproportionately among those over 55, rising by 14.7 percent to 1,155 people.
Younger people are also affected by the rise in unemployment. There are currently 593 people under the age of 25 registered as unemployed, five percent more than in the previous year. Katharina Henkel, chairwoman of the Bad Hersfeld-Fulda employment agency, points out the importance of well-founded training: “Anyone who wants to earn money quickly in helper jobs after graduating from school is thinking too short-sightedly. Completed vocational training is still the best protection against unemployment, and there are a lot of opportunities, especially in our region.”
The training market still offers many opportunities
In fact, around 700 vacant training positions in the district are still registered with the employment agency for the start of training in the summer, of which around 100 are in the old district of Hünfeld. There are also more than 1,600 open jobs that are particularly interesting for skilled workers. “If you can't find the job you want, you should look for similar jobs. There's a lot to choose from.
