Schlüchtern – The new area is moving: On Thursday there will be a lot of activity at the Neuer Obertor in Schlüchtern. On the opening day, many interested people look at the new locations of Bäcker Pappert, Ernsting's Family and Neusehland or visit the post office and tourist information center. That was on Tuesday Complex in Schlüchtern ceremoniously opened after 16 months of construction been.
New Obertor in Schlüchtern: rush for the new shops
“We would need another cash register,” says area manager Vera Theis from Ernsting's Family, when asked whether she was happy with the opening. “No, seriously, we're very happy. It's really buzzing!”

The situation is similar in the neighboring Pappert bakery. Numerous guests are sitting in the outdoor area, some have made themselves comfortable in the shop itself – and there is a queue that extends to Obertorstrasse.
“There was already a lot going on here at 7 a.m.,” says department manager Simone Alt from Waechtersbach, who has been working for Pappert for 25 years. Twelve to 14 employees will work here in the future. “Of course there are more of us today, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to keep up,” says Alt and laughs.

Optician Michelle Fröhlich from Neusehland is also very satisfied with the opening day, as numerous visitors took a look at the new rooms.
There is also a lot going on in the tourist information office and post office. Here you can find postcards with Schlüchtern motifs and much more that the Schlüchtern fan could desire. Kerstin Baier-Hildebrand, head of the family, sport, culture and tourism department for the city of Schlüchtern, says enthusiastically: “Tourist information and postal services, that’s a fruitful thing.” Next Wednesday the time will come and the tourist information office will be permanently on site.

“Schlüchtern fan”, this description fits Michael Otto from Elm perfectly. He and his wife Lisa took advantage of the opening day for a stroll and were thrilled by the New Obertor and the offerings there. However, they also have one point of criticism: “The vacancy rate has shifted within Obertorstrasse. The mayor is asked to do something now,” they say.
