Extensive renovation work is pending on the A66 near Fulda in Hesse, between Neuhof and Schlüchtern. There are closures and diversions. The work costs millions.
Fulda/Schlüchtern – The federal Autobahn GmbH, Fulda branch, is renewing the road surface of the A66 motorway between Neuhof-Süd and Schlüchtern-Nord as well as some of the entrances and exits at the Schlüchtern-Süd and Flieden junctions from the end of May to the beginning of September. The measure to repair road damage costs around 4.2 million euros.
There will be several closures and diversions between May 23rd and probably September 3rd, according to a statement from the federal Autobahn GmbH. “Road renewal is necessary due to existing damage and to restore the surface properties in order to avoid deeper damage to the road surface as part of road maintenance.”
Closures and diversions: road renewal on A66 near Fulda
At the Schlüchtern-Süd junction, the entrance and exit towards Frankfurt will be completely closed from May 23rd to June 10th. The reason is the renewal of the asphalt surface of the driveway, in which the ten centimeter thick road surface over a length of 600 meters is first removed and then renewed and remarked.
The diversion for the exit (U10) leads from AS Schlüchtern-Nord via the L3292 and L3329 to AS Schlüchtern-Süd. The diversion for the driveway is as U12 from AS Schlüchtern-Süd via the L3329 and L3195 to AS Steinau an der Straße. The entrance and exit to the Fulda direction remain open to traffic.
The road between Neuhof-Süd and Schlüchtern-Nord will then be renewed for around four kilometers in both directions from June 10th to September 3rd. The four centimeter thick asphalt surface layer is removed and rebuilt, and in some areas the six centimeter thick binder layer is also added.
Damaged road gullies and the shoulder will also be replaced and new road markings will be installed. Traffic is routed using the “3+1” system, in which one lane is moved to the oncoming lane, leaving two lanes in both directions.
During this traffic route, the driveway towards Frankfurt will be closed at the Flieden junction from June 10th to September 3rd for safety reasons. The U6 diversion leads from AS Flieden via the K90, L3141 and L3372 to AS Schlüchtern-Nord. In addition, the exit towards Frankfurt at the Flieden junction will be closed from July 3rd to 24th.
In addition to the aforementioned closure of the driveway in the direction of Frankfurt, there are further closures at AS Flieden. From July 3rd to July 24th, the exit from the Frankfurt-bound lane will also be completely closed. The diversion is also signposted as U6 and takes place from AS Neuhof-Süd via the K163 to Flieden and continues as above via the L3141 and L3372 also to AS Schlüchtern-Nord.
Afterwards, from July 25th to August 14th, the entrance and exit to the Fulda direction will be completely closed. The diversion is signposted as U43 and takes place from AS Schlüchtern-Nord via the L3372 and L3141 to Flieden and further via the K163 to AS Neuhof-Süd.
