Cycling fans are looking forward to sunny Pentecost in Bimbach. The marathon routes are fully booked, excitement is in the air.
Großenlüder – Finally, after a long test of patience with rain, wind, single-digit temperatures and occasionally even hail, sunshine over Bimbach again? After five years of moodiness Weather it finally looks like sunshine next Pentecost weekend – The best conditions for thousands of cycling enthusiasts at the 36th Rhön Cycling Marathon.
For five years, the Rhön cycling marathon has had to wrest one or two compromise solutions from the weather gods. Now the current weather forecasts for the Pentecost weekend at least look friendly so far: stable high pressure situation, temperatures above 20 degrees, hardly any precipitation. If it stays like this, the 36th Bimbach cycling weekend could once again become the “Wacken of cycling” that will be talked about in the scene for a long time.
Sunny Pentecost: Rhön cycling marathon attracts cycling fans to Bimbach
“We are looking forward to a great cycling event, where perhaps around 5,000 cycling enthusiasts and guests will be expected in Bimbach again,” says Frank Scheiber, chairman of RSC ’77 Bimbach. “The organization is in place, the routes are perfectly signposted, the helpers are hot – now all that’s missing is that the weather finally leaves us alone this year.”
“That’s all you really need for a perfect Pentecost.” As in previous years, the long marathon routes were quickly filled once the registration portal opened. Tour B (183 km), Tour C (214 km) and Tour E (258 km) are fully booked, the starting places for Sunday morning have been in firm hands for months.
For everyone else: space for everyone. The RTF routes, the family tour, the gravel and MTB tours have no limit on participants. Registration is possible online – or simply on site on the day of the event. Gravel or cyclocross – the racing bike with studded tires, so to speak – has developed from a niche discipline into an independent cycling culture in recent years.
In Bimbach this trend is taken into account. Two gravel routes are offered this weekend: around 49 km with 900 meters of altitude and almost 81 km with 1,600 meters of altitude. Both routes can be driven both tomorrow and on Sunday. Route guidance via GPX track (short route also signposted).
A highlight awaits gravel fans on Saturday morning: paracyclist Jan Wiedemann is a guest in Bimbach and is leading an open social ride over the gravel route. The meeting point is at 9:30 a.m. in front of the registration area at the Schützenhaus. Departure is at 10 a.m. Everyone who has registered for the gravel route is invited – beginners as well as experienced gravel heads with gravel or mountain bikes are welcome.
